11: Bibliographical Note, Online References

It is a sad fact of life at the moment, that outside of a search of English language newspaper archives, all of the worthwhile material on Israeli sport is published in Hebrew and not translated.

Two worthwhile books in Hebrew are:

- Sport B’Yisrael by Nechemiah ben Avraham (1960),
- and the more recent Tarbut HaGuf veHaSport beYisrael b’Meah HaEsrim (Physical Culture and Sport in Twentieth Century Israel) (2002) edited by Chaim Kaufman and Chagai Charif. A wonderful new addition to the cultural studies of Israel in general and the study of Israeli sport in particular, it blends academic precision with popular presentation and is an absolutely indispensable source for the subject.
This series reflects its influence all the way through.
